THE HEART MATTERS

Our Lent sermon series is entitled “The HEART Matters.” As we’ve been learning, Lent is a solemn time of preparation when we take inventory of our lives.  The solemn reflection of Lent has been a way to refocus our minds, hearts, and lives on the fact that we need a Savior before we can experience the triumph of Christ’s resurrection. May we fully embrace the reflection and repentance of Lent so that we can fully experience the celebration of Christ’s resurrection!

LENT SERIES SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASS

Please join us at 8:45 a.m. in the Narthex for our “Matters of the Heart” Sunday School class! This 6-week course encourages us to examine our hearts, our motivations, and our loves as we walk in repentance toward Resurrection Sunday.

DIGGING DEEPER

Fill in the blanks using the words below.

Last Sunday, Pastor Andre preached from James 2:1-9. He commented that the topic of partiality is a hard enough topic to preach to one’s own congregation, let alone to another church as a first-time guest pastor! Pastor Andre pointed out that James pulls no punches in addressing this growing  ________ in the Jerusalem church. Why was it so important for James to address it? Because partiality destroys a church! It disgraces and insults the other person. It exposes the hearts of those practicing it. Because it is so dangerous, James ______ the church about it. Pastor Andre pointed out that since all of us have partiality tendencies, we need to be connected to the Holy Spirit—every day. We need to be ______ to ourselves and relying on Him in order to defeat partiality. We are to follow God’s instruction, not the other way around. Instead of showing partiality, we need to be embracing a new attitude that reflects the love of Christ for one another. He said for churches to be __________, they can’t allow partiality to gain a foothold. Instead, they need to be speaking in a common language to ensure that everyone understands the gospel message. They also need to be open and willing to learn from one another. If any one person or _____ is not welcomed at a certain level, that is partiality, and it will destroy a church! Remember, “If you want to be in  line with the Word of God, you must be __ it—DAILY!”

ON THE LIGHTER SIDE…

After a trying day of reminding his 5-year-old daughter to be nice to her little brother, a father finally put the girl in time out. Returning several minutes later to console her, he said, “We don’t really want to put you in time out, but the Bible says that children should obey their parents.” “I know,” the tearful girl agreed. “But, it also says, ‘Be kind to one another,’ too!”
